Olympic Role Models

By Candice Coots

The 2010 Winter Olympic Games are now only 15 days away! Soon we will experience the greatest sporting event in the World live from Vancouver, BC. Athletes from around the globe will tantalize us with their athleticism and ability to perform under pressure. But some athletes have taken on an even greater task. They want to be your role model, and in doing so, will lead by example.

As the Games approach, many Olympians are going above and beyond to teach the next generation of competitors the value of handwork, perseverance and fair play. That’s why I’m proud to introduce the I Compete Clean Because campaign, created by the USADA (U.S. Anti-Doping Agency) to promote clean competition free of performance-enhancing substances and cheating.

The I Compete Clean Because campaign is headed up by seven of this years 2010 Olympic and Paralympics athletes, each of which you can support on Weplay.

One of Weplay’s newest Pros, U.S Hockey star, Julie Chu supports the I Compete Clean Because campaign.

Recent 2010 Figure Skating Camp Rachael Flatt, 17, is onboard as well.

Don’t forget Tim Burke (U.S. biathlete), Erin Hamlin (American Luger), Trevor Marsicano (American long-track speedskater), Augusto Perez (Wheelchair Curling), and of course, the one and only, Lindsey Vonn (Women's Alpine Skiing).

These leading Winter Olympic athletes will be sharing personal stories as well as their motivation for competing clean in the 2010 Olympic group. Join their fan pages and check out the 2010 Winter Olympic group daily for updates.

In conjunction with Weplay and NBC Olympics coverage of the Winter games we have some behind the scenes video clips from a few of the I Compete Clean Because Olympic athletes. Check the WeBlog and Olympics group daily for new videos!

We’ll see you in the 2010 Olympics group!
