“Fail to prepare, prepare to fail” is our Coach of the Week, Dale Jordan’s motto.
The Irishman who has been coaching in the U.S for the last 10 years, says his life-long love of soccer drove him to become a full time coach. Growing up, he took to the soccer field with numerous recreational teams and slowly worked his way up through the age brackets. Now he’s helping the Rochester Lions, the U13 soccer club he coaches in upstate New York, do the same.
Not only is he coaching soccer, but he is also the technical director for New York Premier Soccer (NYPS), which hosts soccer leagues, tournaments and camps throughout New York. Clearly a believer in sports education, Coach Jordan shared that he is continually thankful for the opportunity to work with and teach young players.
Back in Ireland, Jordan, was an explosive player both at the high school and club level. However his first game in the states did not take place until a college study abroad program brought him to Penn State University. During his collegiate career, he earned a degree in sport and exercise science from Dublin City University. He also received his Masters in Sports Management from Springfield College in Massachusetts.
“He is the best coach I have ever had,” wrote a young player to Jordan on a Weplay leadership prop.
That’s what it’s all about. Helping kids get more out of sports by instilling confidence and a passion for the game. Jordan certainly knows what he is doing, and we are honored to have him as a member of the Weplay community.
Coach Dale Jordan's Key's to Success:
Have fun. If you are not having fun, how can you expect the kids to have fun?
Be a role model. How you act and talk to the kids is very important. Be their positive role model within the sport and in life.
Be organized and have a plan for your session. What are your goals for the sessions and how are you going to educate your team?
Think your coach should be honored next? Nominate them to be our next COW!
