Anne Macdonald of Cary, North Carolina, recently left her full time job to spend more time with her family. Her new hobby? Volunteering as team mom for her daughters' soccer team. This bold decision to put her family first, makes her our Team Mom of the Week.
Macdonald's household was expanded when she married her husband Dave two years ago. They came together each having two daughters from previous relationships. Macdonald’s daughter’s Megan, 12, and Emily, 10, and Dave’s girls Georgina, 12, and Olivia, 10 have become one happily blended family.
Megan and Georgina both play for the Cary Christian Middle School Knights Blue soccer team. “ The positive effects of belonging to the same team has been very rewarding,” wrote Macdonald. She is happy that as team mom she can watch their relationship as sisters grow.
Macdonald’s commitment to her daughters and their soccer team is clearly expressed in the initiative she takes as team mom. From team communications, recruiting volunteers, photography duty - she does it all. Her team knows that if something needs to get done, Team Mom Macdonald is on it.
Outside of soccer the Macdonald’s love traveling back to Britain where both families are from. For Macdonald, growing up in the UK, soccer was not always an encouraged activity for young girls like her. She is pleased that times have changed, and that her daughters can play a sport that years ago lacked gender equality.
Congratulations Anne, on being named our Team Mom of the Week! Your will to spend more time with your family is admirable. Good luck to you and the Knights the rest of the season.
