Group Spotlight - Pop Warner

By Candice Coots

This week’s group spotlight selection has to be the entire Pop Warner organization. Besides being one of Weplay’s founding partners, Pop Warner has given a 110 percent to better the online sports experiences for every member of our youth sports community.

Pop Warner leaders were the early group organizers, community builders and ambassadors for football, cheerleading and dance on Weplay. The nearly 1400 leagues and groups linked to the Pop Warner organization are outstanding. They’ve truly built a nationwide community that is passionate about sharing memories, experiences and media.

Pop Warner is also celebrating youth sports competition at their annual National Championship Super Bowl. The top youth cheer, dance and football teams from across the nation are competiting at Disney’s Wide World of Sports in Florida. If you’ve visited the Pop Warner page on Weplay, you’ve been getting all of Scott Adams’ updates live from the event.

The Super Bowl kicked off on Saturday December 5th and ends this Saturday December 12th. Many of our own Weplay teams and squads are competing in this year’s championship. It is always exciting to see some of our own chasing after their dreams.

Here's a recap of how our Weplay Pop Warner Football teams have done so far:

The returning champs, the North Long Beach Panthers played a close 1st round game against the McAdenville Dolphins but in the end won 8-7. Today the Panthers face off against the Port St. Lucie Gold Pirates

The White Oak Warriors Jr. Midget Team, made it to the second round with an easy win over the SF Brown Bombers 40 to 6. The Warriors did it again securing a 22-0 win over the Worcester Vikings in the second round.

Lake Arbor Seahawks, took a difficult 22-0 loss to the Lee Summit Titans on the first day of the Super Bowl.

The New Haven Steelers Midget Division took on the Santa Margarita Mustangs in the first round. Though it wasn’t a high scoring game, the Steelers pulled together for a 6-0 win which takes them onto the second round.

Rahway Chiefs had a tough loss in the first round against the Richmond Perrine Giants. The Giants secured the win 30-0. The Rahway Chiefs had their second round game against the Oak Cliff Titans, TN. The Rahway Chiefs came out on top with another win 22-6.

Next up is our Pop Warner Cheerleading update:

The Palm City Dolphins Jr. Pee Wee squad, earned 15th Place.

The Highland Rockets Jr. Pee Wee squad took home 7th Place.

The wonderful Gilroy Browns Jr. Pee Wee squad snuck in a 19th place finish.

The young Blackstone Valley Jr. Patriots Jr. Midget girls earned a much deserved 4th place award.

Finally, the Jackson Jaguars Pee Wee small squad wowed us with a 2nd place finish.

Congrats to all the teams and squad and a wonderful organization!
