For the past six years, Sean O’Rourke, has been coaching for the Royal Oak Hockey Association. He has mentored players of all ages, helping to guide teams from the bottom to the top. His ability to take a young team and inspire them to believe they can achieve anything makes O’Rourke our Coach of the Week.
O’Rourke is currently coaching the Mite House B team. Their record is an outstanding 14-1-4 this season, including a win at the 2010 Thanksgiving Tournament. And tonight, they hit the ice to compete for the Compuware Championship title.
Outside of coaching O'Rourke is a wonderful husband and father. He and his wife Tiffany have three children, Chanell, 17, Bryce, 8, and Finn, 6. Bryce and Finn both play for the Raiders. They are all huge hockey fans, and the whole family is always there to support the team at every game.
As a coach, O'Rourke likes to make sure that his own hockey skills stay up to par so that he can pass on what he knows to his teams. He participates in a drop in hockey team three times a week, as well as a an adult team in a D league. He loves watching hockey and every winter he sets up a rink in his back yard for the kids.
O’Rourke strives to make his coaching style easy to understand and comfortable for each player. He has found Weplay to be a perfect communication tool. “Make it yours!” wrote Sean O’Rourke about using Weplay has the online home for his hockey teams.
