It was only a month ago that the South Brunswick Vikings softball team found out that they were named the grand prize winners of the Finch's Favorite contest. The Vikings were shocked at the news and thought it must be a joke. Well their dream became a reality this past Friday, April 29th when the Vikings had the amazing opportunity to attend a private one hour clinic with Women’s Softball Olympic Gold Medalist, Jennie Finch.
The once in a life time clinic took place at the beautiful Diamond Nation complex in Flemington, New Jersey, home of the Jennie Finch Softball Academy. It was this perfect facility that made Jennie and the Viking’s time together that much more enjoyable. The one hour clinic was held outdoors and even though there was a slight chill in the air, it never deterred the excitement level of the girls.
The clinic consisted of both a dynamic questions and answers opportunity plus a hands on drill session. The players not only got to sit down and learn how their idol got to where she is today, but they got lots of great fundamental tips on the game while showing off their skills for Jennie. The Vikings made the most of their time between asking thoughtful questions and giving a 110% during the drill session.
These thirteen young softball players participated in something most kids their age only can dream about. It's not every day a group of inspiring athletes actually get to meet an Olympic gold medalist in person, let alone one from their favorite sport.
Thanks again to Diamond Nation for helping make this event possible, and of course thank you to Jennie Finch for inspiring these youth athletes with advice that they will never forget.
