    Weplay Bloopers

Let's face it, we all contribute a few clumsy moments to the youths sports record books. We can't help but smile when Weplayers upload some of their funny plays caught on camera.

So each week we'll post our favorite Weplay Blooper with the community in hopes that everyone can share a laugh and celebrate the learning experiences that are inevitable in youth sports and team activities.

We’d also love for you to submit your favorite funny moments. Whether it’s during a game or competition or just a silly moment after practice or at your sports banquet, share it

I’m proud to announce our first Weplay Blooper. Coming to us from Long Beach, California (hey that’s where our Weplay CEO Steve Hansen is from!), the Heartwell Fastpitch All-Stars gave us a big laugh.

You’ll have to watch the video to find out what happens. But let’s just say the 10U softballers had a great time celebrating Sis’s birthday after their Covina Hills tournament.

Ultimate Messaging and Media Uploads For Kids

We want every youth athlete to celebrate their sports experience and athletic achievements. That’s what a Weplay profile is all about – sharing those memories with friends and family. So we’ve empowered our users under the age of 13 to create more personal profile pages by uploading media, just like Derek, LeBron, Peyton and Jennie!

So far it’s been a huge success. Younger athletes who have requested media permissions from their parents have already uploaded thousands of photos and videos in a few short weeks.

Your positive feedback has reinforced how valuable this new U13 feature is. We understand that kids want to strengthen their relationships both on the field and online with active and valuable participation in their groups. Sports are fundamentally a social experience and every kid should be able to share and participate in a safe environment with parental approval.

In coordination with online safety experts, we also made another update to the family permission system. Parents now have the option to authorize their kids under the age of 13 to type freely like everyone else.

Once approved, younger kids can post public messages in their groups, on friend’s profiles and in public Weplay hubs. Don’t worry parents! You have the ability to turn this feature on and off as you see fit.

As parents ourselves, we believe it’s up to each parent to decide what’s best for their children, especially when it comes to online safety. We hope you take a look at our new family permission system and decide what’s best for your children on Weplay.

Here’s an update on how the system works:

Kids Who Want to Activate Messaging and Media Privileges:

If you’re under the age of 13 simply click on the request link located on your Weplay profile home page. Insert your parent’s email address and send. Your parent will then set your permissions by clicking on the links within the email.

    - Parents on Weplay Who Want to Activate Media Permissions For Their Kids:

Parents already on Weplay can also set media and typing permissions by connecting with their child under their family account. If connections have already been made, parents on Weplay can manage permissions by following the 'Manage my Kids' link on their home page.

    - Once Permissions Are Given:

Kids under the age of 13 will be able to upload media and message as soon as their parent gives them permission. U13 media will only be viewable by their Weplay friends. *Parents who have a change of heart can turn permissions on or off at anytime.

We hope your enjoy these new features. Feel free send us your feedback: support@weplay.com.

    Winning Moments

    Happy Monday Weplayers.

Did you know the Weplay community uploads thousands of outstanding photo and video highlights every day? From a game winning tackle on the football field to a hard-hitting spike over the volleyball net, you all are sharing some of the best youth sports moments on the web.

We want to thank you for sharing your sports memories with us here on Weplay. So starting today, we’ll post a weekly, “Winning Moment” photo or video, to recognize those amazing plays caught on camera.

Our inaugural “Winning Moment” video comes to us from Hapeville, GA. #11 Wayland, succeeds under pressure hitting a long-gone single homer in game two of the Hapeville Hitmen playoff run. The 10U team finished the season 9-6 overall, but this hit certainly merits recognition.

We hope you enjoy celebrating your “Winning Moments” as much as we do. Nominate your favorite play anytime by emailing me at support@weplay.com

Parents of pre-teens help us solve "upload" issue

Not a day goes by without at least one player from an under-13-year old team asking us if they can upload photos and videos like “regular” members.

Safety is a topic we consider for every feature we develop. For example, that’s why pre-teen profiles are always private (viewable only by friends) and why we’ve been careful about not allowing them to upload media.

But we also recognize that parents play the most important role in their child’s online interactions. So we surveyed 2,000 Weplay parents to understand their points of view.

Almost all of the parents were very supportive of their child being allowed to upload, but they also wanted to be able to remove photos from their under 13-year-old albums.

So as of last week parents can now give permission to their under-13-year old child to upload photos and video.

    Here’s how it works:

    - To authorize a child is easy. If you are already a Weplay member, go to the "manage my kids" tab and we'll walk you through it. If you’re not, your child has to put in your email address to request authorization.

    - Once permissions are set. Parents can always change their mind and turn it on or off.

    - Photos and videos uploaded by approved kids under 13 are posted to their profile immediately and are only viewable by Weplay friends. Simultaneously, an email is sent to the parent notifying them that their child posted photos or videos.

    - At any time connected parents can log into their account and access their child’s media through the “manage my child” link and remove any uploads they see fit.

We appreciate all the time and perspective parents have provided us with over the past couple months to make this feature possible.

And, we're looking forward to your thoughts and feedback. Please feel free to email us directly at support@weplay.com or comment below.
